Best time to go for a hike on this trail: All seasons. Summary The trail head to your day hike adventure is found off parking lot c. The trail will immediately descend via a series of switch back steps to the ground floor level with the Potomac river . This may be the most challenging part of the trail. at the bottom Turn right and connect with the Potomac heritage trail which will meander along the Potomac River for 1.1 miles. the trail will showcase minor waterfalls, a few rocky crossings and more times then not a narrow compacted dirt trail heavy brush on either side. the beauty of this trail is its simplicity as its sole goal is to provide the serenity of a river walk away from the bustle of washington d.c. the trail continues for 1.1 miles before an intersect with the woods trail (not marked), turn right here and ascend over a small creek and through dense forest as yoy retrace your steps to your car. This trail is ideal for families who need green space and a few technical challenges. the woods trail eventually returns to the parking lot without much fanfare or effort.
