The Experience

You will love:  Local to Washington DC, well maintained and marked trail system , constant forest canopy. A great ramble through the woods, quick paced and perfect for hiking or trail running.
You need to know:  Popular on weekends.
The following summary is of the blue trail, a 5 mile loop within Sugarloaf Mountain. Here is the open and obvious: Sugarloaf with its proximity to D.C makes it a popular adventure for many so plan accordingly (weekday if possible). The blue trail is found at the West parking lot (furthermost lot) and is a complete loop system. The trail will begin gradually up for 0.2 miles but then taper off to be a ramble of small ups and downs for the life of the trail. During the summer months, the trail will provide you a bountiful tree canopy to stay relatively cool and comfortable. The beauty of this trail is its serenity as the forest dampens all people, cars and noise from nearby areas. What's left is the sound of babbling brooks , the songs of birds and the rustle of your feet on the pact single-track trail.  The blue trail does provide a "summit" called the White Rocks, a small outcrop of rocks presenting a window down into the valley with its smattering of farms. The blue trail is ideal for families, kids and pets as the degree of difficulty is minimal and what is available is a day of exploration and wonder in the forest. Lastly, the blue trail will conjoin with the white trail minimally near the west parking lot.

HIKE ON!
