The Experience

You will love: A rock scramble and a big time summit view.
You need to know:
  • Parking lot is small
  • Be aware of copperheads and rattlesnakes
  • Trail access can be impaired by rain and flooding

A nice find in the GW National Forest, this trail is well marked and has a gentle- steady ascent with three easy to find stopping points for a breather or to take in the view. The trail intersects with several other trails, your trail color will begin as orange then change to pink (where the rock hops and scramble begin). If you research right, you can blend this hike in with others on the same mountain to add to your distance. Once the trail color turns to pink you need to mind your footing. There are small rocks, large rocks, rock hopping and scrambling in your future. (Note: even a little morning fog or dew can make these slick). The end of the trail comes with a small 8 foot rock wall which leads to the pinnacle that being Strickler Knob. This perch shows off its 360 view of the adjoining valleys. Bring your cell or your camera for bragging picks. Retrace your steps back and call it a day. This hike should take 4 hours , more if you are camera happy.  It is not recommended for small kids or adults carrying kids.

HIKE ON!
