What’s to like about the trail:  beautifully managed and well organized trail system. Trails for all comers from kids to adults.  Enjoy the foothills, a forest hike or a pasture hike.
Why go for a hike on this trail: Plenty of trails to choose from and combine for distance and a workout. This park has a little bit of everything for you, even some nearby wineries if ya fancy.
Best time to go for a hike on this trail:  Spring and Fall are tops..
 
Summary:  
About 1 hour outside of Washington DC sits this gem of a state park. It’s not hard to wonder why each year Virginia State Parks can boast awards about their park system. Sky Meadows is perfect for its driving distance from Washington D.C. The park offers hikers the ability to pick and choose your trail, combine with other trails or simply hike up to Piedmont Overlook and enjoy the amazing view. 

route recommendation:

• Use  BOSTON MILL for 0.4 miles to  (Right) GAP RUN trail 
• Use gap trail for 0.5 miles and (Left) NORTH RIDGE trail
• take north ridge for 1.2 miles TO (Right) Appalachian trail
• use Appalachian trail  2.2 miles to ambassador Whitehouse summit.
• continue on ambassador Whitehouse for 1.1 miles and make (left) on north ridge
• follow north ridge for 0.2 miles and (Left) on Piedmont overlook.
• go for 0.2 miles to piedmont overlook. (BIG BEAUTIFUL VIEW!)
• to return to your car, go down piedmont overlook trail (0.4 miles) to RETURN TO BOSTON MILL.. make left onto Boston mill head to parking lot.
• Hike Distance: 6.5 MILES.
