The Experience

You will love:  Beautiful forest canopy, low mileage and easy to navigate with  a less crowded ascent.
You need to know:
  • Fee required to access the park.

The trail head for this advance to Mary's Rock is found at the Hazel Mountain parking lot. From the parking lot, go across Skyline Drive to begin your ascent. The trail is well marked and maintained, easily navigated by trail markers. The trail ascends quickly, with it being only 1.5 miles each way expect it to be a straight up hike to the summit of Mary's Rock. The trail will intersect with the AT trail (white blaze) on the way up, just make sure bear right to continue to Mary's Rock.  The summit is an open face summit with a view of Thornton's Gap entrance station and the adjoining valleys.  The summit is popular, as there is a sister hike from Thornton's Gap that most take. The summit has available rock scramble if you wish to get away and have your own piece of the summit away from the crowds.

Want to add to your adventure, check out Bucks Hollow which links up with Marys Rock
