The Experience
Time to ride the AT! Get ready to welcome the sounds of nature as trees rustle, birds chirp and the sound of your boots rustle & pound through the forest topography. The AT heads north and this single-track trail will start right off the bat with a 500ft ascent via a series of switchbacks. (This is why we pinned it difficult). After the ascent ( and you catch your wind), then it’s a series of small ascents and descents on the trail as you encounter small creeks, dense forest canopy, and what life is like on the AT. The trailhead is easy to find just off Route 55 and Tuckers lane in Linden, VA. Let’s talk about the trail, it is easy to navigate as the AT uses a white paint stash and what’s best about this trail is it can lead you to multiple points of interest like Manassas Gap Shelter or Sky Meadows. The trail is a mix of dirt and rock, be careful as some of the rocks may become slippery during rainy periods or morning dew. However, If you need a day hike to get the work week stress out of your system then the trail to Manassas Gap (5.0m RT) will do wonders, however if you are feeling squirrely then continue on the AT for another 4 miles to the Sky Meadows State Park, one of the best in VA. The trail is well suited for kids 7+ and should be viewed as a solid day hike option.
