The Experience

You will love:  One of the pinnacle waterfalls in the area! A wonderfully quiet retreat to see one of the tallest falls (81ft) in the park and within just a few miles!
You need to know:
  • Fee required to access park.
  • Parking is found at Big Meadows Parking area & Rapidan Fire Road

Your adventure begins just west of the Big Meadows area in a very small parking lot next to the Rapidan fire road. The trail offered here is notably different than the Park Map, be mindful our trail offering here is direct and avoids nearly two extra miles.
From the parking lot, in the corner right is the Fire Road, here a trailhead post marks the way to Lewis Falls.  The trail is a swift but manageable descent over loose rock, roots and compacted dirt. The trail eventually crosses the Appalachian Trail (AT) and continues downward.  Follow the trail to a series of small outcrops for a view of Lewis Falls, at 81 ft one of the tallest in the park. The secret to your adventure is to find the trail from the outcrop that will take you over the creek that feeds the falls and to a private man made stone overlook. This is the best view of the falls!  To head back, retrace your steps, enjoy the steady ascent at your pace keeping in your mind the amazing falls you just experienced!
