The Experience
You will love: Filled with little wonders like a spring fed pond, a remote campsite, and a view of the North Mountain range. Win , win , win.
You need to know:
Your adventure begins at Crisman Hollow Road. The trailhead is tricky to find as it is a small forest road across from the Gap Creek trail area. The trail head has 1 maybe 2 spots to park , the rest are along the side of the road. The trail begins on the other side of a small gate and is marked with a blue hash for a majority of your trek. Your first 0.2 rides a slow and lackluster that wastes without little of your breath. Upon reaching an open grassy area (on your right) , continue on the blue marked trail to your left. You will notice a few wonders right off the bat, a beautiful remote camping spot and second a spring fed pond. How amazing is that?!?! Continuing onward, the trail begins to narrow from fire road to single track , with the trail topography beginning to climb steadily across dirt, stone and roots. At 0.9 reach the intersection with Massanutten trail (orange) and turn right onto the white hash marked trail and head to Jawbone Gap. The trail finishes off with a series of small boulder outcrops for you to scramble and hopscotch over. The overlook is a pocket perch view on a granite slab. The overlook is flat and perfect for sitting a bit. The view is best served when the foliage is gone. To return to your car, retrace your steps. This trail is a fun excursion that can be combined with Strickler Knob and Duncan Knob for a big day of hiking with three distinct summit adventures.
