What’s to like about the trail: Easy to find, well maintained and marked. Fun rock outcrop summit to climb on and lunch on. Why go for a hike on this trail: Short, Sweet and to the point. You get a steady ascent to work the lungs to a summit with a jaw-drop view of the Shenandoah Valley. So payoff, payoff and payoff. Best time to go for a hike on this trail: All season but avoid wet conditions. Summary The trail head is the last time you will see flat ground. Its all ascent and without mercy in some parts. Be prepared, the trail is well maintained (Gravel) that becomes single-track with dirt, rocks and roots. The forest canopy is hardy to keep out the sun and bountiful to enjoy the shade and breeze. This trail can be an in an out or you can make it a circuit trail for a nice 4 miler. The summit is a large rock outcrop that peers out over the Shenandoah Valley. The summit has plenty of rocks to climb on, crawl on and lunch on. Be forewarned, the hike is popular so go for the early start (besides the sunrise and sunset are amazing). Once you have wrapped up the Humpback then head back to route 250 and follow to route 151….. this road hosts numerous breweries and restaurants as your payoff |
