TRAIL INFO
Why go for a hike on this trail: A short little buster that climbs 600 ft. to the High Knob fire tower to bless your eyes with amazing views.
Best time to go for a hike on this trail: Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter
Summary:
The trail head and your adventure begin at Route 33 gravel lot at the top of the mountain. The trail is found just behind the guard rail and descends quickly to a single track path comprised of roots, stones and dirt. Your trail will use a yellow marker for the life of the hike. Back to your adventure. ramble for 0.8 miles to an intersection with the Great Eastern Trail. Make a left at this intersection, remaining on the yellow marked trail and head upward. This portion of the trail while only 0.2 miles is your steepest and toughest due to incline (without any switchbacks). Your climb completes at a forest service road, make a right here and walk another 0.2 miles to the intersection with the Tower Trail. Make a left and head up the service road for 0.3 miles to the pinnacle of your journey, the High Knob Tower.
The tower is accessible via a two flights of wooden stairs, to the platform. Ready for a big view, well the tower has it all. A full panoramic view blesses you with views of West Virginia and Virginia and even better views of Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is quite a view!
When full and bloated on the views, retrace your steps to your car. Be mindful on the way down, the steep uphill is now a steep downhill, remember to take your time and mind your footing.
