TRAIL INFO
Why go for a hike on this trail: Ready for a trail with a little bit of everything in just 1.8 miles?
Best time to go for a hike on this trail: Any season, avoid during very wet or rainy periods.
Summary:
The trail head and your adventure begins at Hone Quarry Road. To the right of the lot is your trail noted with a yellow marker, this yellow marker will be your only one to follow for the entire trail. Your adventure begins with a forest ramble for 0.5 miles inclusive of traversing a few gulley's. This portion of the trail is comprised of compacted dirt and roots but of note is this area will easily waterlog especially in the gulley areas. Coming to your first creek crossing of Rocky Run Creek, have no fear you will cross this creek a total of three times in your journey. The crossings can be managed via rock hopping or using fallen trees, at each crossing be mindful to find the yellow trail marker on the other side. After crossing the creek for a third time, head for 0.3 miles to an intersection, turn right and head upward. This is your steepest section but extremely short and manageable thankfully due to the boulders and rocks to step on. The trail leads to the Hidden Rocks wall, continue to the left along the wall as the trail slithers upward along the rock wall and brings you out to the top of Hidden Rock. This summit is popular with climbs but no worry you will find a perfect spot to enjoy the valley view.
After gobbling up the view, return back down the side of the rock wall using the rock steps, during this descent veer right and continue using the yellow marker. This portion of the trail will descend quickly bringing you alongside another rock wall before descending into the gulley and Rocky Run. Follow Rock Run to the left (downstream) for 0.3 miles coming to a series of small waterfalls. This is a great point to take a breather before continuing on the yellow marked trail. The trail will require you to again cross Rocky Run creek three times before you head back to your car.
