MEET AND GREET

Named in 1873 this town has a history with mile markers in the revolutionary war , the civil war and had deep economic roots in coal. The town has remade its economy on outdoor adventures all the while sitting along the banks of one of America's oldest rivers. Come find out why Fayetteville should be your summer destination.

       Fayetteville is a wonderful charming scenic town nestled up to America's newest national park;  new river gorge national park . the town has restored its vibrancy through its mid century buildings, quiet streets and fun hangouts with everything from outfitters to ice cream shops to antique malls.   TOWN MAP
 
PLANNING FOR FAYETTEVILLE
       With so many activities in and around the region, it can get overwhelming on how to successfully plan your vacation.  to enjoy the area, afford yourself four to five days for activities and rest and relaxation.  There is a pace to Fayetteville as it lives and breathes the outdoors , here is a five day sample guide to plan your adventure

DAY 1: MUST DO's
  • Canyon Rim Overlook - the best view of the bridge , but with a catch in the form of 178 steps! 
  • Fayette Station road - from canyon rim visitor center take the adventure of this hairpin one way only road as it brings you down to the new river gorge! the road has its own views of the bridge, as in right up against the buttresses! continue to follow the road down to Fayette station bridge, this over 100 year old bridge brings you to within a few feet over the new river itself! continue onward as the road slithers back up the gorge to Fayetteville. a 40 minute drive you wont forget! 
DAY 2: MUST DO'S
  • Summerville Lake - "The Caribbean of the east" Pristine lake with 60% of its shores protected forest land.  want a memorable day? then head to SARGE'S DIVE SHOP Rent a kayak/ or SUP and take in the private coves, visit the cliffs and beautiful crystal blue waters all day.  ​
    • word of advice: contact the dive shop weeks in advance to secure your rental.
DAY 3: MUST DO's
  • Endless Wall hike -  ridiculously photographic area. this 2.3 mile hike with points of interest like diamond point , just offer countless views of the white water area of the new river as well as the entire gorge and bridge. tons of perch views to fully take in the massive gorge.  Ready for a secret treat? after diamond point continue for 0.3 miles and look for the climbers ladders. this is a fun area to explore with these ladders in between massive rock ledges for a unique experience ( ages 7+) 
  • Cathedral Falls - Make this short 20 minute drive to one of West Virginia's tallest waterfalls (60ft)
DAY 4: MUST DO'S
  • Long Point hike: this 2.9 mile hike is light on elevation change but heavy on hardwood and pine forests, moss decorated trails and oh yeah , a jetty perch view of the bridge.  Great for families, just watch the little ones on the rocks.
  • Arrowhead bike trail : holy moly this is a fun area! carved into the forest and welcoming of over 12 miles of trail for beginners and intermediate these trails deliver a rush. Need to rent some wheels? ARROWHEAD BIKE FARM is happy to oblige, and they serve food and beer to refill after your adventure!
DAY 5: MUST DO'S
  • White Water time : This is why you are here!  Check out new & Gauley river adventures with trips for families to thrill seekers (their words not mine)  time to finish off your 5 day adventure with world class rapids in this most amazing setting!

LOCAL ADD ONS

  1. Arrow Head Bike Trail   a playground for mountain bikers ! get ready to shred through the forest with over 12 miles of easy to moderate trails. 
  2. The Stache : Ice cream lovers rejoice !  oh and it also sells toys... your kids told me to write this.
  3. Cathedral Falls : ​one of West Virginia tallest and grandest at 60ft with fun tidal pools to explore or cool off.
  4. New River Antique Mall- treasures of all sizes & eras. Great fun to walk about.
  5. Ace Adventure : Supply up for any adventure!
