TRAIL INFO
What’s to like about the trail: less traveled, forested trail good for hiking trail running and mountain biking Why go for a hike on this trail: easy getaway to add a couple of miles to your legs, relatively flat trails, great for kids and Dogs Best time to go for a hike on this trail: All seasons. Summary: Conway Robinson is a 444 acre state forest residing in Gainesville, Virginia. The area is unassuming in the midst of the urban sprawl of Northern Virginia and the parking lot off route 29 can be easily passed without knowing it. The trailhead is a managed entrance, meaning it closes at 6pm and reopens at 6am. The area is rich with pine and old hardwoods that blanket the trails with a dense forest canopy. The trail system while easy to enjoy being naturally flat is not well marked in fact the color swatches marking the trails are few and far between. (Tip : Use your cellphone to take a picture of the trail system before starting your experience). The trails themselves are flat, compacted single-track with little elevation and minor stream or muddy puddle crossings. The trails lack much diversity in their offerings (no rock scrambles, ascents or big summit views) but what the forest offers is rich plant life, terrain suited for kids of all ages to explore and the ability for multi purpose use by trail runners and mountain bikers. The trail system in all depending on your wants and wishes can provide up to 4.2 miles of trail experience. HIKE ON! |
