What’s to like about the trail: Great for quick day hike getaway from the Washington Dc area. A meandering series of trails great for families to explore fauna, rock and historical ruins. Why go for a hike on this trail: Fun excursion, with creek crossings, large tree canopy, small inclines and easily mappable terrain. Best time to go for a hike on this trail: Spring and Fall, avoid during wet periods. Summary Run by the Virginia Outdoors Foundation (http://www.virginiaoutdoorsfoundation.org) , this parcel of land extends for over 2,400 acres. Routinely the area is open to hikers and provides a series of labeled trails for use. In all, over 800 acres is open for use but please check the VOF website for any changes to trail availability. The trail offerings in the Preserve offer opportunities for wildlife viewing, visiting several historical ruins, enjoying the varied fauna as well as creek crossings and geological studying.
