The Experience

You will love:  Short, scenic and good for families. A heavily forested area with streams and well managed trails leading to a pinnacle view of the Potomac River and C & O Canal trail.
You need to know:  No fee required. Parking lot minimal.
The trail head is found off river road at the first Blockhouse Point parking area. The trail begins with the Canyon trail and wide path area that leads to the Potomac River. Follow the Canyon trail for 0.3 miles and make a right onto the Uplands Wood trail. The Uplands is a small ascent via compacted single-track leading to an intersection with the Turkey Fan trail. Make a left and follow briefly to the Blockhouse Point trail. At this intersection , turn left onto Blockhouse Point trail. The trail will cross a small stream and ascend to a ridge line intersection, maintain your adventure on the Blockhouse Point trail. The trail begins to descend to a beautiful plateau with views of the river and C & O canal. If on the daring side, continue on the trail (be mindful of your steps) and continue to find other plateaus with which to enjoy the perch view of the area. Once full of river views, retrace your steps to your car.
