The Wolf Gap area boasts a virtual hiking playground in and around the North Mountain Range. The beauty is, you can add and subtract mileage and trails as you please and build your own experience. The trail is well marked and with a steady ascent of 1,100 feet in just under 1.9 miles to get you to the ridge. The ridge uses the orange blazed Mill Mountain Trail for 1.0 mile. The ridge trail is a high grass walk with plenty of ankle turning rocks that lead you to ascent for the peak (Fun fact: Schloss is German for Castle, nothing otherwise sinner.) The orange trail leads you around the Big Schloss rock outcrop to the back side where an adjourning white blazed trail on the left will take you up to the top. The Big Schloss peak is made up of white sandstone that shows its wears from countless eras of weather. The peak is popular and trafficked heavily, be sure to find your spot for a lunch, for a few pictures and a rewarding look at the valley below. Retrace your steps back to complete this in and out trail. |
