What's to like about his trail: Short but feisty trail best for removing winters rust from your body and enjoying the tranquility of the area. Why go for a hike on this trail A rambler that rollercoasters the Tuscarora trail with a boulder field obstacle and a poem inducing waterfall feature. Best time to go for a hike on this trail: All four season Summary: This is a funny one as the trailhead is found in a neighborhood at the highest point on your trail. I cannot express how interesting the drive up to the top of the mountain was noting the tight turns and sheer grade. The parking for the Biby trailhead is on the side of the timber ridge trail road with only a small plaque noting the Biby trailhead. Start your adventure by walking down along a narrow trail that after 100 yards darts into the woods and toggles over and around the mountain. the trail is single-track comprised of pressed dirt, leafy material and small rocks. you will approach a few obstacles, the first is a small rock field, have no fear the trail resumes just over your shoulder to the left (it can be hard to see the trail marker but be assured its on your left). the trail continues to navigate through thick forest scape with beautiful ground cover of ferns, moss and small pines. at 0.8 miles you will meet up with the Tuscarora trail veer left to continue. As you approach your second obstacle realize that its only an obstacle due to the fallen tree. Because of it, get your rock scramble mind set going and traverse straight over the rocky terrain (filled with large boulders and ankle twisting rocks) as your path and trail resume directly in front of you. Once across, ascend a small embankment and continue until mile mark 1.6, the true treasure of this trail. Here look to your right (or just put your ear up) and listen for the sounds of water. follow the trail about 50-75 yards down a small impromptu embankment and find a small waterfall wonderfully organized by a series of moss-covered rocks overlooking a 25 foot drop to the forest floor. There is a large rock slab here with which to park and have a snack or water break. Once rested, resume the trail on your right and proceed for another mile to the pinnacle shelter. At the shelter find ample space to peruse the cabin, enjoy an area to camp and grill or take in a quiet moment reading the trail log of those who came through. To return to your car, retrace your steps back and enjoy those obstacles once more. This is 4.4 mile trail good for 16+ due to some difficult and tricky obstacles along the trail. HIKE ON |
